Most people who seek psychological consultation want to know (a) how serious their problem or symptoms are, (b) what caused their problems or symptoms, and © if they can change or improve. The seriousness or severity of your problems is proportional to the degree that they block you from obtaining your goals in life, from experiencing pleasure, pain, and suffering. In answer to the second question, we can often identify precipitant or triggering events and factors that maintain your difficulties following the initial evaluation phase of counseling. Lastly, almost everyone can improve their quality of life by resolving self-defeating problems, symptoms and behaviors, to the degree to which they work hard and are motivated to change the things that support self-defeating behaviors. The length of counseling varies. For many, counseling can be limited to a fixed number of sessions, often referred to as brief therapy or "time-sensitive" therapy. Brief therapy usually runs between 7 to 10 sessions. Although some individuals can benefit from 5 to 7 sessions, others may require more visits to resolve identified problems. Thus, for some, it may be counterproductive to place restrictive time limits on counseling. In any case, you and I will jointly evaluate your needs and progress on a regular basis so that we can tell if your counseling is working. Office Hours: By appointment. size=2>FONT>(949) 249-8734
