About Darin
Maybe your mind keeps running through worst case scenarios, or OCD has you stuck in checking and reassurance loops that never quite settle. Maybe you've spent years feeling scattered and wondering why things that seem easy for others feel so hard, or past experiences still show up in your body long after they ended. I help people navigate anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and trauma.
Together we make sense of what's happening in your nervous system and build tools that help you feel steadier, more focused, and more like yourself again.
My approach
Therapy with me is collaborative and practical. I draw on EMDR for trauma, Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD, and CBT based strategies for anxiety and ADHD, always paying attention to how your nervous system is responding. We move at a pace that feels manageable, and your goals guide the work.
About me
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, EMDR trained, and the founder of Darin King Counseling, a Pennsylvania group practice offering telehealth statewide. I earned my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Waynesburg University and host The Regulated Nervous System podcast.
More background
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I was drawn to becoming a therapist through a genuine interest in understanding people and helping them navigate difficult experiences in a meaningful way. I’ve always been curious about how life experiences shape who we are, how we cope, and how we relate to others.
Over time, I realized that many people struggle not because something is “wrong” with them, but because they’ve had to adapt to overwhelming situations without enough support. Becoming a therapist felt like a natural way to help people make sense of those experiences and find healthier, more sustainable ways to move forward.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I aim to create a space where clients feel safe, respected, and never judged. Therapy with me is collaborative — we move at a pace that feels manageable, and your goals help guide the work we do together.
I believe therapy should be practical as well as meaningful. While we explore deeper patterns and experiences, I also focus on helping clients gain tools and insight they can use in daily life. You don’t need to have everything figured out to start — just a willingness to show up as you are.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
My personality is calm, thoughtful, and grounded, which helps clients feel at ease even when discussing difficult topics. I’m approachable and genuine, and I value building a strong, trusting relationship as the foundation of therapy.
I balance compassion with honesty — offering support while also gently challenging patterns that may no longer be serving you. I believe progress happens best when clients feel both understood and empowered.
Work history
My experience as a therapist has been shaped by working with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and major life transitions. Through my clinical work, I’ve supported clients who feel overwhelmed, stuck in survival mode, or disconnected from themselves and others.
Over time, my focus has naturally centered on trauma-informed care and helping people understand how their nervous system, past experiences, and coping patterns influence how they feel today. My work has helped me develop a grounded, practical approach t
