About Weatherly

Maybe you've spent years trying to understand why life feels harder than it should. Whether you're carrying the effects of childhood trauma, navigating complex PTSD, or discovering ADHD (sometimes called ADD) later in life, you may look capable on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted.

You might struggle with difficult relationships, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or constantly second-guessing yourself. Perhaps you've spent so long adapting to others' expectations that you've lost touch with your own needs.

I work with adults navigating complex trauma, anxiety, and longstanding relationship patterns, as well as women who have recently received an ADHD diagnosis or suspect their attention difficulties have gone unrecognized. Together, we can understand what's beneath these struggles, process painful experiences, and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

My approach

Our work is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to you. I integrate EMDR, Brainspotting, Schema Therapy, and attachment-based approaches to address both present-day struggles and the experiences beneath them. We move at a pace that supports safety, curiosity, and meaningful change.

About me

I'm a therapist at Cypress Counseling Group in Brentwood, offering in-person sessions and telehealth throughout Tennessee. My background in law, creative work, and trauma-focused training shapes how I listen: with curiosity, warmth, and respect for the complexity of your story.

More background

Looking Beyond the Symptoms

Anxiety, perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, and a persistent sense of not being enough can have roots in experiences you may not have previously connected.

My work focuses on helping you understand those deeper patterns, particularly when childhood experiences, attachment wounds, trauma, and previously unrecognized attention difficulties intersect. Meaningful change often begins with understanding not just what you're experiencing, but why.

Healing from Complex Trauma and PTSD

When people think of trauma, they often imagine a single overwhelming event. But complex trauma is different. It often develops through repeated experiences, particularly during childhood, that shape how we see ourselves, relate to others, and experience safety in the world.

Sometimes trauma isn't just about what happened to you. It's also about what didn't happen.

You may have grown up in a home where your physical needs were met, but your emotional needs were overlooked. Perhaps your caregivers loved you but struggled to provide consistency, emotional connection, or a sense of safety. You might have learned to minimize your feelings, anticipate others' needs, avoid conflict, or believe that love and acceptance had to be earned.

These experiences can leave lasting effects, even when you wouldn't necessarily describe your childhood as traumatic.

Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) can affect emotional regulation, self-worth, identity, and relationships. You might struggle with shame, hypervigilance, people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling responsible for other people's emotions. You may understand intellectually that you're safe or that certain beliefs aren't true, yet continue responding in ways that feel beyond your control.

Many of these patterns began as ways of adapting to your environment. They may have helped you navigate childhood, even if they're creating difficulties in adulthood.

I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Brainspotting, Schema Therapy, and attachment-based approaches to help clients process difficult experiences and explore the beliefs and emotional responses that continue to shape their lives.

While developing coping skills is important, my approach goes deeper. I want to help you understand not only what's happening, but why, so that the strategies you once needed to survive don't have to define how you live today.

ADHD and ADD in Women: Understanding Yourself Through a New Lens

For many women, ADHD goes unrecognized until adulthood, particularly when symptoms involve difficulty focusing, disorganization, forgetfulness, or feeling mentally overwhelmed rather than obvious hyperactivity. You might recognize these experiences as ADD, a term previously used for what is now generally diagnosed as ADHD, predominantly inattentive presentation.

You may have spent years compensating through perfectionism, overpreparing, people-pleasing, or working twice as hard to accomplish what seems effortless for others. Perhaps you've always been capable and accomplished, but maintaining that appearance has come at a tremendous emotional cost.

Discovering ADHD later in life can be validating, but it can also bring grief, frustration, and questions about how your life might have been different with earlier understanding and support.

I work with women who have recently received a diagnosis, suspect they may have ADHD or ADD, or are beginning to recognize how attention, executive functioning, and emotional regulation affect their daily lives.

I'm particularly interested in the intersection of attention difficulties and trauma. While ADHD and trauma are distinct, they can share some outward characteristics, and they can coexist. Both may contribute to difficulties with emotional regulation, shame, self-criticism, and relationships, although the underlying causes may be different.

Understanding these distinctions can help us develop strategies that address your individual needs while fostering a more compassionate understanding of yourself.

What You Can Expect from Therapy

I believe meaningful therapy involves more than learning to manage symptoms. It's an opportunity to understand your experiences, recognize longstanding patterns, and begin developing a different relationship with yourself.

Our work is collaborative and tailored to your needs. Some sessions may focus on practical strategies for present-day challenges, while others may involve deeper trauma processing, exploring attachment patterns, or identifying beliefs that developed early in life.

My goal is to help you balance coping in the present with healing the wounds of the past. We'll move at a pace that respects your experiences, readiness, and goals.

You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Sometimes the first step is simply having a space where you can begin to understand yourself differently.

I offer in-person therapy in Brentwood, serving the greater Nashville area, and online therapy throughout Tennessee. I invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation.
