About Jack

Jack Bartel, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of The Evergreen Initiative, a fully online practice he opened in 2023 to give LGBTQ+ adults a place to get care from a clinician who shares their community. He holds psychology licenses in Florida, Michigan, and Virginia and, through PSYPACT, can see clients by video in more than 35 states.

Most of his clients are transgender, nonbinary, and queer adults. He writes WPATH-aligned evaluations and letters of support for hormone therapy and surgery, and treats anxiety, depression, burnout, and minority stress. His doctoral training concentrated on health psychology, and he spent his early career in hospitals: a surgical critical care unit, an inpatient rehabilitation unit, a primary care clinic at a federally qualified health center, and a VA medical center. That work shaped a second specialty in behavior change, helping people prepare for surgery, sleep better, manage chronic pain, or stop smoking. He works with cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and CBT protocols for insomnia and chronic pain.

Outside the clinic he trains other providers. Over roughly ten years he has given more than twenty seminars and workshops for physicians, therapists, students, and faculty on LGBTQ+ and transgender healthcare, and he consults for health systems on inclusive policy. He earned his PsyD at the Florida Institute of Technology, completed an APA-accredited internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, and a postdoctoral fellowship in medical psychology at the Orlando VA. He is a trans man and brings that experience to his clinical work.
