About Matt
Matt Edelstein, PsyD, BCBA-D, is a child psychologist who holds Maryland licenses in both psychology and behavior analysis. At Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore he runs the Brief Treatment Clinic, a short-course outpatient program for young children with behavior problems, and he holds a faculty appointment in psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
For more than ten years his caseload has been children whose behavior has become hard for families and schools to manage: aggression, non-compliance, long tantrums, and the behavioral side of autism, ADHD, and tic disorders. Much of his work is with parents and teachers, who learn the techniques so that progress made in clinic continues at home and in the classroom. He also supervises doctoral students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows, and has taught as adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland and Regis College.
His research covers early intervention for young children with behavior disorders, simpler ways for parents to record what happens between sessions, and whether behavior analytic protocols hold up in an ordinary outpatient clinic. He presents that work at conferences and speaks often to special education staff and parent groups.
