About Kurt

Life brings challenges that can feel heavy to carry on your own—whether you are dealing with unresolved trauma, high-stress professional demands, or watching your child struggle with behavioral changes and big emotions. I help veterans, working adults, and children/families navigate the "ruff" stuff: PTSD, moral injury, anxiety, depression, and high-stakes life transitions.

Many people put off counseling simply because standard business hours conflict with shifts, school runs, or family obligations. To solve that friction, I offer secure telehealth appointments starting at 8:00 AM as well as late-evening availability. You can complete focused, evidence-based therapy before your workday starts or after the house is quiet for the night. Reaching out takes courage, and my goal is to provide a grounded, practical space where you can unpack what’s weighing you down and regain control

My approach

Therapy should be collaborative, practical, and focused on real results. As a former educator and combat-zone veteran, I combine structure with deep empathy. I use evidence-based modalities like EMDR and nervous-system stabilization to help you reprocess trauma and build durable coping tools at your own pace, without clinical jargon.

About me

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Dual-Service Veteran (U.S. Navy and U.S. Army), and former teacher. I founded RuffStuff Counseling PLLC to deliver accessible, high-standard telehealth across Montana. I work with individuals and families on the journey toward self-understanding and long-term personal growth.

More background

As a Dual-Service Veteran and former educator, I understand firsthand that the "Invisible Pack" carried through life isn't just borne by the individual—it affects the whole family. Whether you are returning from deployment, managing workplace burnout, or parenting a teen struggling with life transitions, the strain on your nervous system and your relationships is real. My clinical philosophy is rooted in a simple core belief: "Helping people on their journey to find acceptance and an understanding of self; to promote growth throughout their life." In our sessions, we do not engage in aimless conversation. We identify immediate stressors, unpack root trauma, and develop clear, actionable roadmaps. Utilizing evidence-based tools, we work to reprocess distressing memories, calm chronic hyperarousal, and restore emotional stability.

Why Telehealth with RuffStuff Counseling? Montana-Wide Access: High-definition, HIPAA-compliant telehealth available whether you are in Bozeman, Missoula, Billings, the Flathead Valley, or a rural county.

8:00 AM & Late Evening Availability: Early-morning and late-night appointments designed specifically around shift workers, parents, and executives who cannot afford to miss work for weekly appointments.

Direct & Respectful Communication: A grounded environment where you set the pace, build vulnerability as a strength, and focus on tangible steps forward. "Find strength through vulnerability. Embrace growth, embrace life."
