The correlation of these 30 original items with any IQ test has not been measured. Text-only presentation also leaves out much of what a full cognitive assessment examines.

There is no clock and no bonus for speed, so let your own pace decide how long the quiz takes rather than aiming for any particular time. You can pause between questions and use scratch paper if that helps you think through a problem.
Can I Use This Quiz for Mensa or Official Admission?
No. Mensa and similar high-IQ societies require a supervised, standardized test administered or approved by the organization itself, taken under timed and proctored conditions with an approved administrator. This quiz is self-administered, untimed, and unproctored, and its result is not accepted by Mensa or any similar organization as evidence of eligibility.
The same is true for school gifted programs, workplace testing, and any other official use. If you need a result that will be accepted for one of these purposes, ask the organization which specific instrument and administration they require, then look for a licensed psychologist or an approved testing center that offers it.
What to Do After This Quiz
Curiosity about reasoning often extends beyond a single number. Methodology & sources
This is an original educational reasoning quiz, not an administration or adaptation of a published IQ test. Its task types draw on abilities that correlate with IQ-test performance, including reasoning with relationships and acquired verbal knowledge. That research does not establish a correlation for our items. We have no validation study, standardization sample, age norms, reliability estimate, or evidence that the total measures general intelligence. The references explain the science and the limits; none supplies these questions or validates this quiz.
All 30 items have four answer choices, with one correct answer worth 1 and three incorrect answers worth 0. There are no reversed items, time bonuses, penalties for incorrect answers, or adjustments for age or education. The total is the number correct out of 30. Fixed editorial cutoffs of 0 to 9, 10 to 17, 18 to 24, and 25 to 30 assign broad estimated ranges of quiz performance. They are not IQ conversions, clinical thresholds, confidence intervals, or population norms. One answer at a boundary can change a label without a meaningful change in ability. With four choices, random guessing has a one-in-four chance of earning each point; the total is not corrected for guessing.
Series has 8 items, Verbal 6, Logic 6, Numerical 5, and Patterns 5. These are our own descriptive groupings, not validated subscales or separate IQ scores. Their different lengths and uncalibrated difficulty prevent direct ability comparisons. Items move broadly from simple rules toward combined rules, qualifications, and multiple constraints, based on editorial judgment rather than empirical difficulty estimates. Explicit sequence rules constrain the answer because a finite sequence alone can have many mathematical continuations. All patterns are expressed in words, so the quiz is neither language-free nor culture-free and cannot substitute for visual reasoning or standardized memory and speed tasks.
In intelligence research, g is a statistical factor representing the shared variation across diverse cognitive tests: people who do well on one often do well on others. Researchers estimate it from patterns of correlations, commonly with factor analysis. It is not a brain location or a complete inventory of human ability. A clinical IQ composite samples several abilities under standardized conditions; our five headings and a correct-answer count do not establish a measure of g. Deary (2012) reviews this measurement framework and its wider associations.
Formal IQ results also contain measurement error. The standard error of measurement describes the uncertainty associated with imperfect reliability, and clinicians interpret scores with test-specific confidence intervals and context. It is not the same as the variation of scores across a population. We have neither reliability data nor a calibrated score scale, so we cannot calculate a defensible standard error or confidence interval for this quiz. Making an invented IQ interval wide would not solve that problem. Pearson documents the professional WAIS-5 and its technical materials; we do not borrow that instrument's precision.
Test-retest reliability concerns consistency across occasions; it does not mean identical scores. Repeated testing can improve results through remembered answers and familiarity with the task. Scharfen, Peters, and Holling (2018) found retest effects across cognitive tests. No waiting period has been established that would make a repeat of this exact quiz an independent estimate. Regression to the mean is a separate statistical issue: unusually high or low measurements can be less extreme on repetition because temporary influences do not repeat. The Flynn effect refers to historical increases in average performance on intelligence tests across generations in many settings. It concerns population trends, not an automatic gain for an individual each year. Trends depend on the setting and period, and old norms can change the meaning of a result. Flynn (2007) explains why rising scores complicate interpretation. We make no calendar-based adjustment and have no norms of any age to update.
Why do online IQ tests often seem to score people high? Easy questions or generous, unsupported conversions can inflate a reported IQ; extra time, outside help, and repeated attempts can also lift performance. People may be more likely to share flattering results. These are plausible mechanisms, not evidence that every online test inflates scores or that we know how often it happens. We have not audited that market. This quiz avoids an IQ conversion altogether, although its raw result can still reflect assistance, guessing, or practice.
Formal IQ scores predict some educational and occupational outcomes on average, as reviewed by Deary (2012), but provide limited information about any individual life. Opportunity, health, skills, relationships, motivation, and circumstances also matter, and a score cannot forecast happiness or personal worth. Evidence that education can improve measured cognitive performance comes from Ritchie and Tucker-Drob (2018); it does not establish that puzzle practice raises broad intelligence. Sleep and treatable health difficulties can affect everyday thinking. Addressing a contributing problem may help performance without guaranteeing a lasting IQ increase. What is my IQ, and what does g mean?
This quiz cannot tell you your IQ. It gives a broad estimated range of performance on original reasoning questions. In research, g is the statistical common factor in performance across different cognitive tasks, estimated from their correlations. Formal IQ tests sample several abilities and compare results with appropriate norms. We have not shown that our quiz measures g, and we have no evidence-based mapping to a population average or percentile. A number correct out of 30 is a quiz score, not an IQ score from Psychology.com.
How accurate is the estimated range, and can I improve it by retaking?
Accuracy against formal IQ testing is unknown. The ranges use editorial cutoffs and have no measured error margin. In validated testing, the standard error of measurement expresses uncertainty arising from imperfect reliability; this quiz has no data to calculate one. Test-retest reliability describes consistency, while practice effects can raise results through familiarity or remembered answers. Regression to the mean can also make an unusually high or low attempt less extreme next time without a change in underlying ability. None of these effects has been quantified here. Do not interpret a retake as evidence of improvement or decline. Scharfen and colleagues (2018) review practice effects; Barnett and colleagues (2005) explain regression to the mean.
Why do online IQ tests often give high scores, and what is the Flynn effect?
An easy quiz paired with generous conversion rules can produce flattering IQ claims. Unlimited time, outside help, repeated attempts, and selective sharing can contribute too. These are possible explanations, not a measured claim about every online test. The Flynn effect is a different phenomenon: historical rises in population test performance across generations in many settings. It helps explain why the age and relevance of norms matter; it is not a personal yearly improvement rule. Flynn (2007) discusses this distinction. We have no standardization sample, and adding a wide numeric IQ band would not make our estimate calibrated.
When is a real assessment worth getting, and how do I arrange it?
Consider assessment when suspected learning disability, ADHD, persistent memory change, or difficulty studying or working calls for a clearer explanation. It can also help establish the evidence needed for school or workplace accommodations. Ask your primary care clinician for a referral to a licensed psychologist with adult assessment or neuropsychology experience; ask the psychologist about training, language suitability, costs, and the documentation needed. Real IQ testing, including the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale and Stanford-Binet, is conducted one to one in clinical assessment and normed on representative samples. Allow roughly one to two hours for a core assessment appointment, but ask about timing: the battery alone may be shorter, and a broader evaluation may take several sessions. IQ testing alone does not diagnose ADHD or a learning disability. A professional result can differ substantially from this quiz in either direction. New or worsening cognitive change needs medical review regardless of quiz performance; sudden confusion needs urgent medical help.
Does IQ predict my future, and what can actually help my thinking?
Formal IQ predicts some outcomes on average, including aspects of education and work, while saying little about the course of a particular life. This quiz has no demonstrated predictive validity. Education has evidence for improving measured cognitive performance, as reviewed by Ritchie and Tucker-Drob (2018). Protect sleep and seek care for health problems affecting concentration or memory; treating a contributor can help, but does not promise a fixed IQ gain. Practice can improve a practiced task without showing broader change. Neither a formal IQ score nor this estimate measures your worth, creativity, kindness, or prospects for a satisfying life. Never use this quiz for employment, education placement, custody, disability determinations, or any decision about another person.
