Online Therapy Directories for a Teletherapy Practice (2026)

Choose paid listings around the states you can serve, with current compact distinctions and clear limits on map visibility for an online-only practice.

Editorially reviewed 10 sources cited Free to read

In short

An online-only practice should pay for access to the states it can legally serve, not for an office-based map pin it cannot legitimately maintain. Google excludes online-only businesses from Business Profile eligibility. Zencare publishes one-profile multistate coverage; TherapyDen's FAQ reserves internal search and multiple online states for its $30 monthly premium profile; Latinx Therapy includes available-state listings in higher solo tiers. Psychology Today's online visibility and additional-state arrangements should be confirmed for your account. Compact enactment is not automatic practice authority: check the commission's operational status and your own authorization before advertising a state.

What should an online therapist directory let you do?

A useful teletherapy placement should identify the states where clients may be located, distinguish video from office appointments and make your service, fee and availability clear. The presence of a video checkbox is only the beginning. Ask whether the profile can actually appear in a state-based search without pretending that you operate an office in every city.

Before paying, inspect the public search as a prospective client would. Select a state, a relevant specialty, appointment format and payment preference. Then ask the operator how your proposed profile will enter that result and whether more states require another subscription. A directory's national footprint does not establish that your individual plan includes national exposure.

The general therapist directory comparison covers broad options. This guide isolates the no-office placement decision within the practice guides rather than ranking every directory again.

Which directories publish useful multistate features?

Zencare's Marketing page, accessed September 26, 2026, says one profile can cover the states and ZIP codes a clinician serves, at therapist.zencare.co/marketing. Its pricing page publishes a starting marketing fee of "$59 per month + $80 one-time set up fee" and "$69 per month in NY and CA," checked the same day at therapist.zencare.co/. Those are profile expenses; they do not provide licenses or compact authorizations.

TherapyDen's FAQ at www.therapyden.com/faq, accessed September 26, 2026, is more specific than its free-profile signup headline. It publishes "$30" monthly for premium and states that free profiles do not appear in TherapyDen's internal search. Free profiles list one online-counseling state; premium enables multiple states, including applicable PSYPACT states. A free public profile and a searchable multistate placement are therefore different products.

Latinx Therapy's join page at latinxtherapy.com/join/, checked September 26, 2026, includes listing in available states in its solo Standard "$23" monthly tier and Premium "$223" yearly tier. Eligibility and community fit still apply. The cheaper Basic plan should not be assumed to supply every state and language feature.

These are published feature distinctions, not comparative referral measurements. Choose the plan that exposes the fields you need, then verify the saved profile appears for the intended authorized locations.

How should an online-only clinician use Psychology Today?

Psychology Today's join page publishes "$29.95/month," accessed September 26, 2026, at join.psychologytoday.com/us/signup. Its public directory distinguishes online care, but the publicly reviewed material does not establish one universal additional-state price or unrestricted state coverage for every account. Get the current arrangement for your specific license combination before multiplying subscriptions or assuming one profile covers everything.

The directory terms effective March 23, 2026 require a valid physical business address the professional owns, leases or has a professional right to use, and require an accurate disclosure of online or in-person services. A business address is not the same as a client-facing office. Do not advertise office appointments where none are available or invent a location to enter a desirable city result.

Ask support how a video-only profile is displayed, which states appear in search and whether an additional profile or fee is required. Keep the answer with your budget records. A competitor's description of Psychology Today's policy is not a substitute for the operator's own current terms.

For an existing subscriber, the Psychology Today profile guide covers visibility and inquiry checks before you replace the placement.

Compare placement costs for a practice without a map pin

Zencare MarketingStarts "$59" monthly plus "$80" setup; "$69" NY/CAOwn marketing page says one profile covers served states and ZIP codes.
TherapyDenFree profile; premium "$30" monthlyFAQ: free excluded from internal search and limited to one online state; premium multistate.

The price column is not a league table. A lower monthly fee may omit internal search or multistate features, while a higher fee may include creative work you do not need. Compare the cost of the particular configuration your practice can use.

How do you decide which states belong on the profile?

Make a service-area list from actual authorization rather than marketing ambition. Record the license or privilege, any relevant expiration or renewal point and whether the directory accepts that form of authority. Keep the clinical and regulatory documentation outside the public marketing copy, but make the advertised state list consistent with it.

The HHS guidance on licensing across state lines, accessed September 26, 2026, explains that cross-state practice routes vary and that clinicians should verify the patient's location. A client's mailing address is not necessarily their location during an appointment. An intake process should address that distinction, particularly for travel, college attendance and seasonal residence.

Do not interpret a directory accepting a state field as permission to practice there. The site controls its profile software; the relevant board and compact authority govern professional authorization. If a state becomes available to you later, add it once the necessary authority is in place and your practice is prepared to serve clients there.

How many jurisdictions have joined PSYPACT in 2026?

The PSYPACT Commission's legislation list and its June 25, 2026 Alaska and July 1, 2026 Iowa announcements together identify 45 enacted jurisdictions: 43 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. This is our count of the commission's named jurisdictions and updates, checked September 26, 2026, not a claim that all 45 are operational receiving jurisdictions today.

The commission's news text explicitly says Iowa's effective date is one year after July 1, 2026. Direct access to psypact.gov/page/statelegislation and psypact.gov/news/ was blocked during this review; their official indexed text was available. Because enactment and activation can differ, this guide does not present the enacted total as a verified current authorization footprint.

For a psychologist, the directory claim should reflect the receiving jurisdictions actually available under your active PSYPACT authorization, not simply every state that passed legislation. Verify the commission's current map and your own authorization before selecting states. A directory's convenient PSYPACT selection tool does not replace that check.

What is the current Counseling Compact footprint?

The Counseling Compact commission map lists 38 states plus the District of Columbia, 39 jurisdictions, checked September 26, 2026. Its application page distinguishes that membership footprint from states issuing privileges. Pennsylvania is described there as becoming a member later in the year, so it is not silently added to this current map count.

The commission's application page currently identifies nine live states: Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee and Wyoming. Its status information is more specific than older launch language elsewhere on the site. Twenty-nine additional states and DC are described as participating but not yet issuing privileges in that application snapshot.

A qualifying counselor must still obtain the applicable privilege. Do not advertise all member states as available merely because your home state enacted the compact. The buying implication is practical: paying for a wider directory footprint before you can use it may purchase exposure that cannot become an appointment.

Does the Social Work Licensure Compact already authorize multistate practice?

The Social Work Licensure Compact jurisdiction list contains 32 states when counted on September 26, 2026. The commission's current implementation information says multistate licenses are not yet being issued. The membership count therefore describes enactment and implementation progress, not 32 states you can immediately add to a clinical profile through the compact.

A social worker with separate valid state licenses can still advertise the jurisdictions those licenses authorize. Keep that existing route separate from a future compact route. Do not write that a compact application is pending as if it were an issued multistate license.

These commission counts are date-specific and use explicitly stated denominators. States, DC and territories are not interchangeable counting units. Recheck operational status when you buy a multistate subscription and whenever you expand its public service area. Directory software may lag behind a regulatory change, so verify both sides of the update.

Why can't an online-only practice have a Google Business Profile?

Google's Business Profile eligibility policy, accessed September 26, 2026, excludes online-only businesses. A practice offering only video appointments does not become eligible by hiding a home address or selecting a service area. A service-area business serves customers in person at their locations; it is not a workaround for remote care.

A hybrid practice with genuine eligible in-person operations is a different case and must meet the policy on its actual facts. Do not buy a virtual office address or imply a staffed clinic simply to obtain a map pin. A listing-management vendor cannot grant eligibility that Google's policy withholds.

Without a Business Profile, you can still maintain a practice website and suitable directory profiles that may appear in ordinary web search. Write accurate state service pages with useful information rather than manufacturing an office page for every city. The SEO guide for therapists explains the broader distinction between useful search visibility and unsupported ranking promises.

What should your teletherapy profile make clear?

State the service, licensed locations, age range, format, fee and available appointment times. A person searching across a state may not care how near your mailing address is, but they still need to know whether you can work with them and whether the schedule is workable in their time zone.

Use ordinary language for the appointment process. Explain how an initial consultation is requested and when to expect a reply. Avoid suggesting that joining a directory means immediate access to a session. A profile that accurately limits availability may produce fewer contacts while reducing unsuitable inquiries.

Language, accessibility and payment fields can be especially important when there is no local office visit to clarify expectations. Complete the relevant structured fields and check the public result. Do not promise technology support, language fluency or accommodations that the practice cannot actually provide.

Publisher disclosure: Psychology.com operates a directory. It fits as a general placement at $49 a month or $490 a year after a 30-day free trial, no per-lead fees. Confirm that a proposed listing can represent your authorized service area before buying; no claim of superior referral volume is made here.

Which placements are worth paying for without an office?

For a practice serving one state, test one profile with state-based discovery and clear specialty and payment information. Multiple-state features have little value if you cannot legally or practically accept clients elsewhere. Use free eligible resources as additional contact surfaces while understanding any internal-search limits.

For a practice already authorized in several states, compare the complete configuration cost: one inclusive profile, a premium multistate tier or several separately charged profiles. Include setup fees and annual commitments. Then track appropriate inquiries by state so you can see whether the extra coverage is producing usable opportunities rather than an impressive-looking service map.

An international therapist directory is not a shortcut to serving clients worldwide. Country-specific rules, the clinician's location and professional insurance can all matter. Use the applicable authorities to confirm the proposed service before advertising it, even when a directory accepts an international profile.

Choose a test period and a spending limit. Count appropriate inquiries and attended starts, including overlapping discovery routes. A directory placement is worth retaining when its role and results fit your practice; its national or international branding alone does not establish that value.

If an offer combines referrals with software, insurance administration or a contracting role, compare it through the online therapy platform guide for clinicians. For a straightforward subscription or ad campaign, use the paid-placement price comparison to keep the advertising expense visible.

Frequently asked questions

Can I list every state in a compact on my directory profile?

Only advertise jurisdictions you are actually authorized and prepared to serve. Enactment, operational participation and your individual license or privilege are different facts. A directory’s state selector or compact checkbox does not replace verification with the relevant commission and board.

Is TherapyDen free for a multistate teletherapy practice?

Creating a basic profile is free, but the FAQ checked September 26, 2026 says free profiles are excluded from internal search and limited to one online-counseling state. It publishes $30 monthly for premium, which includes internal search and multiple state listings.

Can I hide my home address and create a Google Business Profile?

Hiding an address does not make an online-only practice eligible. Google’s policy requires an eligible business model, and its service-area option concerns in-person service at customers’ locations. Evaluate a genuine hybrid practice separately under the actual eligibility requirements.

Does a second state automatically require another paid profile?

It depends on the directory and plan. Zencare publishes one-profile multistate coverage, TherapyDen reserves multiple online states for premium, and other configurations need confirmation. Obtain the current operator’s terms for your specific states before comparing the total expense.

Should I buy a teletherapy platform subscription instead of advertising?

First identify whether the offer supplies software, referrals, insurance administration, a contracting role or an independent public listing. Those solve different problems and can have different economics. Paying for video software alone does not establish a searchable placement that sends clients to your practice.
