Wise Mind Worksheet
A DBT worksheet for finding the calm center where emotion and reason meet, so your next decision honors both your feelings and the facts.
About this tool
Wise mind is a core idea from the mindfulness module of dialectical behavior therapy. Marsha Linehan described three states of mind we move between. Emotion mind is when feelings run the show and facts get distorted or ignored. Reasonable mind is cool, logical, and task-focused, but blind to what matters emotionally. Wise mind is the overlap of the two: the calm, grounded inner knowing where reason and emotion come together.
Most of us recognize wise mind as that quiet sense of what is right, the felt knowing that something is true even before we can fully explain it. It is not the loudest voice and not the most logical argument. It is the settled place underneath both, and DBT treats reaching it as a skill you can practice rather than a mood you wait for.
This worksheet helps you find wise mind by laying out both sides honestly. When you can see what emotion mind is saying and what reasonable mind is saying, side by side, the wiser middle path often becomes clearer. Neither side is the enemy. Emotion mind carries important information about what you value, and reasonable mind keeps you anchored to reality. Wise mind listens to both.

Wise Mind Worksheet FAQ
What is wise mind in DBT?
Wise mind is the calm inner state where emotion mind and reasonable mind overlap. It is the grounded sense of what is right that honors both your feelings and the facts, and DBT treats reaching it as a skill you can practice.
How do I get into wise mind?
Slow down, breathe, and notice both what your emotions are telling you and what the facts say. This worksheet lays both out so the wiser middle path becomes easier to see. With practice it becomes a felt sense you can drop into.
Is emotion mind bad?
No. Emotion mind carries real information about what you value and care about. The goal is not to silence it but to balance it with reason, which is what wise mind does.
