My style: warm, collaborative, humorous

Being seen and deeply known by another is something many of us both desire and fear. That fear makes sense; when we’re vulnerable, we open ourselves up to the pain of judgement and the possibility of rejection.

About Mj

Being seen and deeply known by another is something many of us both desire and fear. That fear makes sense; when we’re vulnerable, we open ourselves up to the pain of judgement and the possibility of rejection. At the same time, we offer the most tender parts of ourselves an opportunity to be witnessed, accepted, and held lovingly.

Still, our pain and trauma may tell us that we’re too much or not enough for others, that we’re too sensitive, or that our reactions to the world around us aren’t justified. If you have been wrestling with any of these feelings, I invite you to come to our sessions exactly as you are and be met with curiosity, kindness, and care. I'm trained in cognitive processing therapy, allowing me to guide clients in reprocessing the trauma keeping them stuck without having to “relive” their darkest moments.

My approach

My approach is neglect and trauma-informed. My clients and I use the therapeutic relationship to develop insight, examine the role of thoughts and beliefs in shaping reality and how the past affects present dynamics. I aim to help clients reconnect with their autonomy, self-compassion, and purpose to weather life’s uncertainties and cultivate self-acceptance

About me

I'm a queer, Black therapist and a native New Yorker. I'm drawn to clients who feel disconnected from themselves, their relationships, and their environment, and those who are so used to being relied on that they’ve lost sight of their own needs. I hope to offer clients a chance to write new stories about who they are and can grow to be.

More background

I earned my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College, and have worked with children, adolescents, and adults in community mental health and private practice settings. As a queer, Black therapist, the lenses of identity, culture, and sociopolitical context are key to my understanding of clients’ experiences navigating childhood trauma, sexual abuse, queer identity, immigration trauma, loss and major life transitions, relationship issues, mood disorders, and low self-esteem. Using a collaborative and trauma-informed approach, I strive to cultivate a space where my clients feel empowered, supported, and known by me.
