My approach

My work is relational and depth-oriented, rooted in attachment theory. I believe understanding where your patterns came from is how they change for good. When I notice a pattern, I’ll say it out loud and check that it fits for you. You won’t have to wonder what I’m thinking and we often use humor to acknowledge what's going on for you.

About me

I’m Janie, a licensed therapist and the founder of Spaces Therapy in Highland Park, Los Angeles. I fell in love with attachment theory in 2012. I especially love working with couples stuck in loops, people who put everyone else first, executives and business owners, and people grieving someone they love.

I’m Janie, a licensed marriage and family therapist and the founder and executive director of Spaces Therapy in Highland Park, Los Angeles.

My approach is relational and depth-oriented, and it’s rooted in attachment theory. I got hooked on attachment theory in 2012, and it’s still the anchor of my work. I pick up new tools along the way, but I’d rather stay grounded in what I believe than chase whatever’s trending.

I think the relationship between you and your therapist matters most. So I show up as myself, and I hope you will too. I’m warm. I’m collaborative. I’m direct. You know your story better than anyone, and I bring my training in psychology and attachment. When I notice a pattern, I’ll tell you, and I’ll check that it feels true to you. You won’t have to guess what I’m thinking. Clients tell me I’m gentle, and humor tends to find its way into the room.

I do a lot of work with couples who love each other but keep landing in the same argument. I also work with people who take care of everyone else first, like the breadwinner who feels unheard or the family member who shrinks their own needs. Executives and business owners find their way to me often. I also sit with people grieving someone they love.

I keep learning about experiences different from my own, including gender, race, and socioeconomic background. I want everyone who sits with me to feel truly seen.

I have an M.S. in Marital and Family Therapy and I’m Brainspotting Level I trained. I see clients in person in Highland Park and online in California, New York, Washington, Colorado, and Texas.
