I view psychotherapy as a path to personal growth. Therapist and client forge a therapeutic partnership that helps to alleviate stress, improve personal relationships and enhance wellbeing and self- esteem. My particular psychotherapeutic strategy is tailored to the individual needs of each client. While problems may be considered in light of past experience or future goals the ultimate purpose is somewhat different: To help the client experience his or her life with more vitality and meaning. I use the therapeutic approach developed by John Gottman, Ph. D. at the University of Washington in my work with couples. This form of psychotherapy ultimately helps couples establish a friendship built on intimacy, interest and respect. Initial sessions provide a therapeutic “roadmap” to change. Subsequent meetings address barriers to emotional closeness while reestablishing mutual values and goals. I work with adolescents suffering from anxiety, depression, substance abuse and school-related problems. Because participation and feedback is so important to the outcome of therapy, I encourage all clients, regardless of age, to contribute in shaping their treatment. The participation of parents or guardians is also essential to the therapy of under-age clients. While adolescents have rights to confidentiality, parental input is always sought and encouraged.
